Her first apprenticeships began in 1980. Her daily, intentional, practice began then as well. She began professional practice in 1999. All her apprenticeships and trainings have been done in the magical Southwest, namely Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico, from multiple teachers of varied paths. Her formal massage schooling took place at New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts (NMAHA), in Santa Fe. She’s been in Santa Fe since 2001.

What results can be expected from a massage therapy or energy work session? What feedback do you regularly hear from clients?
Hawaiian philosophy says, Kala, there are no limits. Ayurveda teaches that Nature is self-correcting, self-healing. Our bodies, minds and souls are part of Nature. When we support and sustain our inner balance, our beings harmonize with the natural world. In the natural world all works in harmony. Again, there are no limits. This is the understanding from which each session is given.
Clients regularly share that pain, even long-standing, disappears or greatly diminishes, mobility is restored, vision improves, hearing improves, anxiety quells, calm returns, a sense of groundedness, being centered and supported is felt and maintained, the mind quiets, the breath deepens, joy, lightness and ease return.
I’ve had clients share profound happenings after one session. Some clients make receiving massage and energy work a ritual part of their self-care. Many conditions resolve after multiple sessions. Some work with multiple practitioners. All who experience lasting changes are those who commit and maintain lifestyle changes.
Receiving massage and energy work often clears the mind-body so that inner guidance for needed change is heard and energy is up so clients have the energy needed to take action on this guidance.
Can Reiki and energy work be done clothed, without touching the body and/or from a distance?
Yes, and they can be combined with massage and thus with hands on the body. If you’re interested in receiving energy work only, you may let Kalalea know how you’d like it administered— hands on or off the body.
Are massage therapy and sexwork synonymous?
No. The massage therapy profession is regulated State by State by a massage therapy board. It’s mandated by law that massage therapists be educated, certified and licensed in the State of New Mexico. Continuing education is required for the duration of a massage therapist’s career. This education includes ethics. It’s unethical and illegal to offer sex services under the guise of massage. Kalalea Gordon is a professional massage therapist and upholds the standards that guide and laws that govern her profession.
Are healing sessions and packages available?
Not yet, but they’re in development. More comprehensive offerings in multiple sessions, as healing happens in layers.
Is there currently a massage school in Santa Fe, if I want to study?
Currently, the only accredited massage program in Santa Fe can be found at Santa Fe Community College. Locally, there are still reputable schools in Albuquerque and Taos.
Does ROWHA employ, or contract with, other therapists?
No. Kalalea is the sole practitioner at ROWHA.
